World Menopause Day Event
The National Innovation Centre for Ageing (NICA) invites you to join their open discussion about menopause on the 18th October 2022, from 10:30am - 12pm, followed by refreshments.
NICA will be opening a dialogue about this important stage in a woman’s life; discussing how women in the workplace can receive support during this time and highlighting the different groups they can join to come together and share experiences. Please note that this will be a hybrid event, so you can either register to attend in-person or online.
A pop-up choir will be performing at the end of the seminar at 12 midday, with members having rehearsed their performance from 10-12 midday. Please note that the rehearsal and the seminar are happening at the same time, so you can either attend the seminar or participate in the choir, but not both. If you would like to participate in the seminar please click on ‘take part’ button. If you would like to join the choir, please register for it on Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/menopause-awareness-pop-up-choir-tickets-423271003967.
The seminar will conclude with a general roundtable to discuss some new policy initiatives being considered around menopause and will also include a Q/A before we are then entertained by a pop-up choir and finishing with refreshments.
Members of the Newcastle University Wellbeing Team, Oliver Bell and Jo Fainchey, will highlight how menopause champions, workplace policies and initiatives like the Meno Meets are practical examples of how workplaces can support women working through menopause.
Claire Robinson, Cluster Manager for the Internet of Caring Things, will share her story about setting up FemTech North and running [email protected] sessions that provide a safe space that allows women to bond with each other and speak about their individual experiences on a journey travelled by women around the world.
Karen Ross, Professor of Gender and Media at Newcastle University, will discuss the project, "Blood, bone, crone: researching the menopause from the inside out", which is a community participation project in which researcher Karen worked with women in Newcastle and Makerere (Uganda), as they talked about their menopause journeys. As women spoke about their experience, they also crafted a menopause ‘moment’ using paint, ink, collage or thread. To date, the project’s outputs comprise a short animated film and an exhibition of the artworks the women produced, which will be displayed in the foyer of the Catalyst building.
Everyone is welcome to attend.
