Aim

BAUS (British Association of Urological Surgery) is leading a GIRFT initiative (Getting It Right First Time) to brain storm treatment algorithms for the treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms as a result of benign prostatic hypertrophy (big prostate). One of aims is to develop a patient decision tool to help the patient choose the best treatment option for themselves - due to the vast number of options now available. We would be keen for patient involvement to help steer the design and ensure the development of a clear choice pathway.

Volunteer Criteria

Predominantly male - aged 35 and above with an enlarged prostate and understand the impact on quality of life along with anxieties that this condition creates.

What will I be asked to do?

Participate in 2-3 virtual brainstorming sessions to review pathways proposed and steer improvement.

When and where?

Virtually/evening in June.

Will I get anything for taking part?

Volunteers will received a £20 voucher for their time and participation per session attended.

Sorry - I don't understand the "aim" of this opportunity :(
Is it possible to have a "lay summary" type of description?
I have problems with my "waterworks" and would like to help.

Thank you for your feedback. Apologies that you did not feel the summary was clear. The aim of this call is to find volunteers who are willing to help our team put together a patient information tool which helps the patient work through treatment options and their thought processes around which treatment they may wish to choose to improve their symptoms as a result of having a large prostate. Symptoms generally involve needing to pass urine frequently, getting up at night to pass urine, difficulty starting to pass urine or dribbling and incontinence and sometimes complete inability to pass urine. There are lots of treatment options available currently and this can be confusing for patients, so we hope to make this process easier and less confusing by offering concise information that may guide the patient as to the best option that suits their needs.
