Tai Chi for people with dementia
This project follows a previous NIHR funded project https://www.bournemouth.ac.uk/research/projects/tacit-trial-tai-chi-people-dementia which looked at the benefits of Tai Chi for people with dementia and their informal carers’ health and well-being. The next phase will look at developing videos to use as the basis for running the classes and to enable home practice.
We are looking for people, preferably aged 65 or over to attend this Zoom meeting to provide their valuable feedback and advice on the project idea. The researchers plan to have a Zoom meeting with people with dementia (need to be living in the community, not in a care home) and their family carers, to to talk about the project further. Those that cannot join by Zoom will be invited to have a discussion by telephone.
If someone is interested and cannot attend a Zoom session then please contact Dr Nyman directly by email on [email protected].
What will I be asked to do?
We are looking for 5 pairs (a person with dementia and their informal carer). The person should have a diagnosed form of dementia but for this study we are not including those with Parkinson’s type or Lewy Body dementia but people with e.g. Alzheimer’s disease, cardiovascular dementia, mixed etc.
Will I get anything for taking part?
After the meeting, those that meet the above criteria and attend a meeting by Zoom / telephone will be paid £25 for their time.
