Background and Aim

After stroke some people have very weak leg muscles which can make it difficult for them to stand and walk.  Our team wants to see if using painless electrical current stimulation (given through sticky pads on the leg) can help to prevent the leg muscles from getting weaker.  Giving people this stimulation may help the muscles be ready to work when the person starts to practise standing and walking.  Our team is developing a research project to look at if using simulation for people soon after having a stroke is beneficial.

We are seeking VOICE members who have had a stroke or cared for someone with a stroke to take part in our online workshop to help design the research study.

Volunteer Criteria

We are looking for VOICE members from across the country.

We are looking for adult members (18 years of age and over) who have had a stroke or have cared for someone who has had a stroke.  If you have have experienced muscle weakness that is helpful but not essential.

We are inviting people from all demographic backgrounds.

What will I be asked to do?

We would like you to join a small group of up to 8 people who have also had a stroke or cared for someone with a stroke to be part of an online workshop.

In the workshop we would like your input into aspects of the design of the study and how we can approach people after stroke to take part.

The team would also like your thoughts and feedback on possible questionnaires to include in the study. These questionnaires would be filled in by people taking part in the study (if it were funded).  Prior to the workshop the team will send you electronic versions of the questionnaires to look through.

When and where?

The workshop will take place online on Thursday 6 October 2022 at 11:00 AM.  The workshop will last around an hour to an hour and 15 minutes.

The team are flexible with the technology that we use to meet.  This will depend on the majority preference of the VOICE members involved.

Will I get anything for taking part?

VOICE members will be reimbursed £25 for their participation.
