What's the best way to lose weight? Online Survey
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO, 2016), for both genders, being overweight or obese poses a major risk for serious diet-related noncommunicable diseases. Recent research suggests that obesity is three times as deadly for men than women (Global BMI Mortality Collaboration 2016). Supportive environments and communities are fundamental in shaping people’s choices, by making the choice of healthier foods and regular physical activity the easiest choice and therefore preventing overweight and obesity (WHO, 2016).
Due to preconceptions about gender, health professionals don’t refer men to weight loss groups as much as women however when men engage in weight management programmes that match their preferences they are often very successful at sticking with the programmes (Aveyard, et. al 2016).
There are also important differences between men and women who report high stress levels (Stigsdotter and Grahn, 2011) as well as men and women with an internal locus of control (Cobb-Clark, Kassenboehmer and Schurer, 2014) that are relevant to preferences for physical activity.
It is important to understand different individuals’ preferences and interpret them in the context of what is readily available to them to determine if and how services can be improved.
This anonymous and confidential survey is about the preferences people have when trying to lose weight or maintain their preferred weight and how people may differ in their preferences.
The aim of this study is to explore the preferences different people may have when they are trying to lose weight or maintain their preferred weight by the ways in which they choose to manage their food and drink intake and do some physical activity.
To take part you must be aged over 18.
You do not have to be actively trying to lose weight but due to the nature of the questions, the survey is not suitable for those who have an eating disorder related to being underweight.
What will I be asked to do?
You will be asked to answer questions in an online survey. This will take approximately 15 minutes.
When & where?
This survey is to be completed online.
The survey will be available to complete until the end of September 2017.
