Online VOICE Research Support Group
The VOICE Research Support Group was set up 6 years ago to support Newcastle University researchers with their public involvement. VOICE members have assisted researchers by providing early feedback on research proposals, lay summaries and other project documents which has contributed to project success for many researchers.
- Do you have an interest in research?
- Would you like to help researchers and give feedback on their projects?
- Would you like to join a friendly group and meet other VOICE members?
We are looking for volunteers who enjoy discussing and learning about research and want to help influence the direction of research projects on a wide variety of topics.
Due to COVID-19 we are recruiting for a temporary group who are willing to meet online until we are able to resume our usual face to face meetings. There will be the option to apply for being a member of the group for face to face meetings, hopefully later in the year.
To be a member of the VOICE Research Support Group you must:
- be aged 18 or over
- be willing to support researchers and provide them with feedback
- be able to listen and respect other members' viewpoints in a group setting
- be willing to commit to attending regular meetings online (please note we are currently unsure how long this commitment is and will be dependent on COVID-19 Government guidelines)
No particular skills or experience is required, just enthusiasm and a willingness to get involved.
We welcome new and returning members.
What will I be asked to do?
As a member of the VOICE Research Support Group, you will be asked to attend regular meetings and meet with different researchers. At each meeting, the researcher will give a short presentation about their work or project and will either have some questions they would like to ask you or a document they would like feedback on. You will be asked to give your feedback, advice and ideas within a group setting.
Details of each meeting will be circulated in advance so you know what each meeting will be about.
You may also be asked to provide feedback on lay summaries via email in between meetings.
You will be provided with an induction and support pack to help you with your role.
When and where?
The Research Support Group meetings will take place online on Zoom. The first meeting will be Wednesday 2nd September at 10:30.
If you are unfamiliar with Zoom, please click here to read our blog on how to join online calls.
