Medical Technology Innovation workshop
Second call - due to a change of date, the researcher is looking for more people to take part in this opportunity.
As part of their Medical Technology Innovation course, post graduate biomedical engineering students must solve real problems and design solutions that could work for real people. This year the focus is on hip and knee musculoskeletal conditions.
Following the success of Voice North's involvement in Medical Technology Innovation student workshops in 2015 and 2016, the students would like to work with Voice North members again.
The aim of this workshop is for Voice North members to help the researchers develop solutions for problems associated with the care of musculoskeletal issues related to the hips and knees. Volunteers will influence innovation by telling researchers what they should focus on in relation to the care that is required for these conditions.
By listening to volunteers' experiences, there will be a reality-based focus which cannot be gained from reading about problems in a text book.
Volunteers must have experience of any musculoskeletal problems related to the hips and knees.
This can be based on your own experience or someone you know and can be acute or chronic.
What will I be asked to do?
Volunteers will be required to attend a workshop lasting approximately 2 and a half hours.
In the workshop you will speak to small groups of student researchers, under the guidance of a Newcastle University staff member, about your experiences of short or long term musculoskeletal conditions of the hip and knee.
This will include telling them what it is like to live with these conditions, whether they are related to rheumatology or orthopaedics; conditions affecting your bones, including strength and condition of bones, joints and surrounding tissues, including connective tissue diseases.
The workshop may be audio recorded to help the students analyse the data for their innovations/research.
When & where?
The workshop will take place on Monday 27th February, 10:00-12:30.
- 10:00 - Arrival
- 10:15 - Introduction to teams followed by conversation style interviews and breaks
- 12:30 - Light lunch
The workshop will take place in The Innovation Studio, Room 2.10, Newcastle University Business School.
Will I get anything for taking part?
Participants will receive a £10 Marks and Spencer voucher.
