Aim
This project aims to improve the health of the population in the North East and Cumbria by evaluating the impact of Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs) on health inequalities in childhood obesity, type 2 diabetes, and hypertension incidence. To do this we will focus on the following objectives:
Objective 1: Estimate the number and types of food establishments in Gateshead, Newcastle, Carlisle, and Northumberland by area level deprivation over the period 2012-2020.
Objective 2: Explore the association over time between the type and number of food establishments, area level deprivation, childhood obesity, type 2 diabetes, and hypertension incidence in Gateshead, Newcastle, Carlisle, and Northumberland.
Objective 3: Estimate if, and for whom, SPDs impact on the incidence of childhood obesity, type 2 diabetes, and hypertension
The project team would like to hear your views on how you engage with food offering in your local environment, how you feel about new food outlets opening in your local area and if you prefer certain types of outlets over others, and how you think we can use policy to make sure that everyone has access to healthy and nutritious food.
Volunteer Criteria
Anyone with an interest in food, how food choices are shaped by where we live, and how we can try and make sure that policy helps all have access to healthy and nutritious food is welcome to take part.
What will I be asked to do?
You will be asked to take part in a one hour online workshop to share your views. Your contributions will help shape and inform the research project. The project team would like to hear your views on how you engage with food offering in your local environment, how you feel about new food outlets opening in your local area and if you prefer certain types of outlets over others, and how you think we can use policy to make sure that everyone has access to healthy and nutritious food.
There will be another workshop held in March 2022 to let you know what the project team have done since meeting with you and how their findings can be used.
When and where?
The workshop will take place on Zoom on Thursday 25th March, 12-1pm.
Will I get anything for taking part?
