Aim

MedEx-UK is study exploring the potential benefits of a Mediterranean diet and physical activity intervention for dementia risk reduction.

The study aims to encourage increased adherence to the Mediterranean diet alongside increased physical activity in older individuals in the UK, with the ultimate aim of reducing dementia risk.

As part of the study we wish to run group sessions, which are designed to help support behaviour change. We would like VOICE members to help to facilitate these sessions.

Volunteer Criteria

Facilitators will preferably have experience in facilitating group sessions for behaviour change. Facilitators will ideally be of a similar age to the group session participants (55-74 years) but this is not essential.

What will I be asked to do?

After receiving training, the group facilitators will be required to deliver sessions to help encourage increased adherence to the Mediterranean diet and increased physical activity to older individuals participating in the MedEx-UK study. Facilitators will be given training and a script to follow during the sessions.

You will be asked to deliver 18 sessions in total. Each session will be 2-2.5 hours long. Sessions will be on separate days.

When and where?

The group sessions will take place March - August 2019 at Newcastle University.

Will I get anything for taking part?

You will receive £18 per hour for your contribution.
