Take part in a series of workshops to help develop a theatre production about the challenges of ageing.
VOICE and the Faculty of Medical Sciences Engagement team are working with Alphabetti Theatre to develop a play around the theme of human ageing.
Using a focus group partly made up of VOICE members, we will we working with a local writer to use public opinions, insights and experiences to help develop a script which would be turned into a free public play in 2020.
By taking part in these workshops you would be part of the creative process to help develop a piece of theatre. It is hoped that this play would engage the public in the challenges of ageing and an ageing society.
Anyone is welcome to take part in this project. No prior experience of theatre or writing is required, but a willingness to share ideas and experiences is important.
Preference will be given to those who can attend all of the scheduled workshops, or as many as possible.
You will be asked to attend a series of workshops with a writer. You'll be asked to share stories and talk openly about the challenges of ageing.
You will also be added to an online group for discussions outside of the workshops and may also be asked to read the initial draft of the script and provide feedback. You may also be asked to attend some early rehearsals of the play to provide feedback.
There will be 6 workshops in total, each lasting 2 hours.

You will receive a £20 voucher for each workshop. Travel expenses (within the North East) will be reimbursed and tea and coffee will be provided.
You will also be invited to a complimentary showing of the play 'Rocket Girl' at Alphabetti Theatre on 18th February after the final workshop, to thank you for your input throughout the process. Lunch will also be provided at the last workshop.
