An opportunity to take part in a study to investigate the differences between age groups and genders on engaging technologies.
This project concerns all transport modes, investigates the differences between genders and various age groups and examine the impact of different life experience on engaging technologies.
The project aims to answer the following questions:
1. Where do well-designed examples of new and emerging technology already exist (in transport and other sectors) that meet the needs of older people? Why have these technologies been used successfully by older people?
2. What are the key barriers to engaging with new and emerging technologies for older people, and how do these barriers differ by type of older person? Where older people have generally engaged with some forms of new technology, why have other older people not done so?
3. What specifically needs to change to enable greater numbers of older travellers to access technology which are aimed at helping people to plan make journeys?
4. Where is further research needed?
Voice North participation will help the researchers to understand why it is easy to engage with some technologies but different to engage with others, how to design ageing-friendly technologies and any further research needed to guide the design to guide the design of future technologies.
The researcher requires 16 participants aged between 61-75 and 14 participants over the age of 75.
The researcher would like to speak with Voice North members who like technologies as well as those who don't.
To apply to be a part of this project, you will be asked to complete a short form. This should take no longer than 15 minutes.
Participants will be selected and then interviewed by one of the researchers. This will last no longer than an hour.
The participant can decide where they want the interview to be carried out, at the University, in their own home or a public place. If the participant lives a long way from Newcastle, the interview can be carried out by phone.
The interviews will be carried out from Monday 28th November to Friday 9th December. The time will be arranged between the participant and the researcher.
Participants will receive a £10 Eldon Square voucher for taking part.
