Aim of Research

Following a successful VOICENorth and Medical Technology Innovation student workshop in 2014, the students would like to work with VOICENorth members again to develop solutions for long term respiratory conditions such as COPD or asthma, sleep apnoea or snoring, etc. and would like to speak to people about their experiences of these conditions.

This is a chance for VOICENorth members to influence innovation by telling researchers what they should focus on in relation to long term respiratory conditions.  Relate your experiences to the innovation researchers and train the researcher in the best way to think about respiratory conditions.  In an ideal world, what problems would you like to see disappear? What problems do you encounter with care?  What are the real problems with regards to medication, space in the home, day to day living, people’s attitudes, etc.

Volunteer Criteria

  • Have experience of a long term respiratory condition (this can either be yourself or someone you know)
  • Available to attend Newcastle University Business School (Opposite St James’ Park) on Friday 4th March (workshop 10:00 – 12:00, followed by a light lunch)

What will I be asked to do?

You will need to attend a workshop at Newcastle University Business School and speak to a small group of students about your experiences of long term respiratory conditions.  The workshop will be recorded to help the students analyse the data for their research.

How long will it take?

The workshop is due to last for 2 hoursand lunch will be provided afterwards.  You will also be asked to read some information beforehand to brief you on the project.

Will I get anything for taking part?

Participants will be given a £10 Eldon Square voucher as a token of appreciation for your time.  You will also be provided with feedback from the workshop.
