Aim

The factors underpinning severe malnutrition are complex. The current World Health Organization feeding regimes to treat malnourishment result in nutritional recovery. However, this poorly predicts other important outcomes including mortality, relapse and re-hospitalisation within one year.

Increasingly it has become clear that disruption of the gut’s microbial community, altered gut barrier function and the immune system play important roles in recovery. So there’s an urgent need to understand how to support optimum gut function in the face of infections that can alter nutrient absorption, and divert nutrient and energy expenditure.

Join us for our next Global Health Forum which will focus on the complexities and issues involved in managing severe malnutrition.
