Monday 5th February 2018 - cafépolitique

Brexit, Identity and the Popular Politics of Resentment

Dr Ipek Demir, University of Leicester, will discuss contemporary frictions over difference and identity, including multiculturalism, race and the rise of white nationalism. She’ll examine how the backlash against loss of privilege and multiculturalism, which has been simmering over the last decades, can help us contextualise the politics of resentment and Brexit.

Café Culture North East welcomes you to caféstyle thoughtful public discussions on culture, politics, philosophy and science. Open to all. No prior knowledge needed, just a like-minded desire for convivial and lively banter in an inclusive, welcoming setting. Events are free. Donations welcome.

Events run 5:30-8pm (Talks begin at 6pm)

Snacks and refreshments are available until 6pm. There will be a short break during the discussion (please purchase refreshments for the break before 6pm).
