Members of this Group will help with the design and development of Imperial College’s Community Engagement and Involvement plans during the COVID-19 outbreak.
This Group has been established by myself, Philippa Pristera, on behalf of the Patient Experience Research Centre at Imperial College London. Researchers from Imperial College are amongst those leading the global response to the new coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19) and informing the UK government’s plans and messaging. However, we have learnt from previous outbreaks (SARS, pandemic influenza, Ebola) that early engagement with communities is an essential part of outbreak response. We therefore plan to use the VOICE online platform to rapidly capture the opinions, behaviours, preferences and unmet needs of communities in the UK during this outbreak.
We hope this Group will be a platform for you to support the development of our ongoing community involvement activities and material. But we would greatly appreciate any feedback you may be willing to provide on our research plans and material too.
We are trying to remain responsive and adaptive to the rapidly evolving nature of the outbreak both in the UK and around the world. We have ideas about how we could facilitate engagement and involvement with the public and local communities both through this Group, through VOICE and via other digital channels. However, we would gratefully welcome any ideas or preferences you may have about what we at Imperial, and Newcastle, could or should be doing.
We will share further information about our current research plans and community involvement activity with this Group soon. From this hopefully we can then start to co-develop the project, as well as grow new ideas together. Of course, if you have any questions in the meantime, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
